The Seeds of a Global Mindset

My journey of authentic leadership started way before corporate boardrooms or coaching stages. At two years old, I was already dreaming global after meeting Rob, our Swedish "big brother" who was an exchange student. While most toddlers worried about nap time, I was plotting international adventures and imagining a world beyond my backyard.​​​​​​​​​​​​​

 

By age 8, I was already a mini-executive, teaching my mom's employees how to run her gift shops. At 10, I knew exactly what I wanted: to travel the world and train people. And here's a fun fact - at 16, I confidently shared this dream with the legendary Zig Ziglar himself. Talk about early manifestation!

The Resilience Roadmap

My life has been a testament to resilience and curiosity. While other kids were learning basic navigation, I was teaching myself how to navigate planes, trains, and yes - automobiles. Pre-smartphone era, mind you. Stockholm's subway? Conquered. Chicago O'Hare? Navigated. Interstate travel between Wisconsin and Texas? Piece of cake.

This wasn't just travel skills - this was building a confidence that would become my professional superpower.

By 18, I had:

• Graduated high school in three years

• Spent a transformative year as an exchange student in rural Queensland, Australia

• Secured admission to my dream school, Baylor University​

While at Baylor, I studied Communications with a clear vision: stages, radio, TV. My professors saw my potential and pushed me to apply for an incredible semester in New York, where I managed dual internships at Madison Square Garden Network and the Ricki Lake Show. Balancing this and graduating on The Dean's List? Absolutely!

The Corporate Transformation

Dell Technologies was my professional playground for nearly two decades. And here's a vulnerable moment - I bombed my first interview. Completely! 

 

I didn't just work at Dell; I helped transform it. I was a powerhouse – not just showing up, but fundamentally changing how teams and organizations operate. My professional journey wasn't just a career; it was a mission to transform the way we did business:

• Launched and transitioned customer care teams across multiple countries

• Coached hundreds of associates through their own career transitions

• Implemented business transformation initiatives that redefined operational excellence

• Managed complex order processing and customer success teams globally

But here's the real story: I did this while navigating spaces where I was often:

• The only woman in the room

• The only minority present

• The only person with a disability at the table

When I was laid off, most would see devastation. I saw a gift, blessing and opportunity . This wasn't a setback; this was my launching pad to fulfill my lifelong dream of empowering others on a global scale on my terms and I was ready!
